ZAMBOANGA CITY: Military authorities on Sunday reported that four alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the government in Bukidnon.
The military’s Eastern Mindanao Command said that among those who surrendered to the 68th Infantry Battalion in Bukidnon’s San Fernando town was a squad leader of the NPA.
It identified the rebel leader as Ben Indagnay. He surrendered along with his supposed followers, Boyno Maylan, Jomar Panganlagan and Janice Vallero, an alleged medic of the NPA.
The group also surrendered three rifles and a pistol.
Military officials said the rebels would receive compensation for all the weapons they surrendered to the military and government financial aid.
The NPA is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines. It has been engaged in a decades-long protracted armed struggle for the establishment of a socialist state in the country.
