As the Asean Economic Community (AEC) looms on the horizon, the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) is doubling its efforts to help the local franchising sector become globally competitive and ready for an integrated Asean.
Toward that goal the association is presenting the country’s longest-running franchise show, Franchise Asia Philippines 2014.
“Franchise Asia Philippines 2014 is specifically focused on raising the global competitiveness of Philippine franchises in light of the impending Asean integration,” Alan Escalona, CFE, Overall Chair of Franchise Asia Philippines 2014, explained.
“We should bear in mind that the AEC is really all about raising the global competitiveness of the Asean economies so that the region can easily integrate with and benefit from the global economy.”
Slated for July 16 to 20 at the SMX Convention Center, the capacity-building platform and enabling agent for the Philippine franchising sector will tackle the theme “Conquering an Integrated Asean” as it presents strategies, solutions and opportunities to help the sector take the full advantage of the Asean Economic Community (AEC).
“While the AEC will pose challenges to the Philippine franchising sector, we believe that the opportunities far outweigh the challenges provided the sector prepares for this new chapter in our history. We have to raise our global competitiveness so that we can continue to grow – not only domestically – but even beyond our borders. In fact,” said Franklin Go, PFA president. “The AEC is an opportunity for Philippine franchises to expand in the Asean region and eventually across the globe.”
The week-long event expects to exceed previous records in terms of conference delegates and expo visitors. It will also reinforce the country’s position as the franchise gateway to Asean.
Franchise Asia Philippines 2014 will feature a two-day international franchise conference on July 16 to 17, which will focus on how business and the franchise sector can prepare for the Asean integration; a three-day international franchise expo on July 18-20, which will feature homegrown and foreign franchise brands and other business opportunities; franchise educational seminars on July 18 to 20; and, the Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) program on July 14 to 15.
Noted franchise expert Greg Nathan, CFE will be the program speaker and facilitator for this year’s CFE program.
The franchise show is supported by the World Franchise Council, Asia Pacific Franchise Confederation, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Go Negosyo, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and Philippine Retailers Association (PRA).

Meanwhile, the three-day one-stop-shop international franchise expo is expected to gather more than 50,000 visitors to the SMX Convention Center to explore the myriad of business opportunities in the food, retail and service sectors being showcased by some 500 home-grown brands, both emerging and successful, and international brands that desire to penetrate the Philippine market.
The international area of this year’s expo will present country pavilions from the US, Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea and Malaysia. Exhibitors from countries such as the UK, Laos, Taiwan, Canada, Cambodia, Japan and Hong Kong will also be featured.
