GNPower Mariveles Coal Plant Ltd. Co. plans to start construction of a 1,200-megawatt (MW) power plant in the Freeport Area Bataan (FAB) in Mariveles, Bataan by the first half of next year. GNPower has a 600MW plant running in the area.
GNPower expects to deliver a total of 1,800 MW for the Freeport by 2018, GNPower community relations manager Roberto Racelis Jr. told reporters during a media tour.
This first plant sits on half of GNPower’s 120-hectare site in the FAB, so the new 1,200-MW power plant will be built on the remaining 60 hectares, Racelis said.
He said the company will need $2 billion to build the new power plant.
The energy firm plans to employ 300 personnel once new facility is in full operation.
Its first power plant has already created 200 jobs.
Moreover, GNPower will also open its own school in the area early next year. The school will offer two-year programs to train workers in the power sector. The school can accommodate 200 students.
Racelis noted that the educational facility will be crucial in ensuring a skilled workforce for GNPower.
Meanwhile, GNPower has assured reliable and cheap power supply inside FAB. The company is also the largest investor in the FAB for this year.
