A multi-sectoral group will hold a rally in front of the Chinese Embassy in Makati City at noon on Friday to protest Beijing’s continued aggression in the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea), which it claims in its entirety as its own.
Interviewed on Tuesday morning by Radyo Inquirer, former Parañaque City (Metro Manila) Mayor Roilo Golez, lead convenor of the group called West Philippine Sea Coalition, said they chose the day, July 24, to coincide with the date when Beijing declared the creation of Sansha City, which encompasses the areas it claims in disputed territories.
“It was on July 24, 2012 when the Chinese government created Sansha City in the Paracel and later included the entire South China Sea. Scarborough [Panatag] Shoal is also included and that’s what we’re opposing,” he said in Filipino.
“We decided to create [this]movement and alliance to resist China’s aggression.”
