Bohol Gov. Hon. Edgar Chatto and Rep. Aris Aumentado are optimistic about the construction of the Bohol-Cebu Friendship Bridge, saying the planned infrastructure would benefit the two provinces’ economy.
The project, which calls for the construction of a floating bridge with a viaduct, will be connecting Getafe, Bohol and Cordova, Mactan in Cebu.
First conceptualized by the late Gov. Erico Aumentado, the 22-kilometer bridge brings together other benefits aside from transportation.
Through the bridge, water from the Inabanga River can be delivered to Mactan via a pipe.
Moreover, the project will bring in low-priced power from Cebu to Bohol. The bridge will also improve trade and commerce through exchange of goods and influx of tourists.
According to Rep. Aumentado, initial meetings were held among interested investors who will construct the bridge under the Private-Public Partnership Project scheme.
The $2.5 billion needed for the project can come from private investors. There are already prospect investors who are bullish about the project, which is seen as more viable than the delayed international airpor project.
