Thermal water, the solution to acne-prone skin
The small and tranquil town of Avene in southwest France is home to only some 300 people who exist together with the Sainte-Odile spring, known around the world for its pure, thermal water.
In the 17th century, a Hydrotherapy Center was built at the spring for dermatological treatments, healing all kinds of skin ailments. A century later, top dermatologists of France recognized the healing properties of Avene’s water, and even sent bottles upon bottles from the spring to Chicago to help burn victims of the infamous fire in 1847. The latter paved the way for Avene’s worldwide fame.
It was in 1975, meanwhile, that the Avène Hydrotherapy Center was purchased by Pierre Fabre Laboratories, a pioneer of dermo-cosmetics and the second largest private pharmaceutical company in France today.
Since then, the company has built a new hydrotherapy center that currently accommodate up to 4,000 patients. It has also expanded Avene’s skin care line internationally through its growing range of products.
Sharing Eau Thermal Avene’s rich history to the Philippine press in October was Charline Tang, product manager of Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmetics for Southeast Asia.
In her dermo-cosmetics presentation held at SM Makati, Tang explained some of the properties that make the famous Avene thermal spring water unique. The first is its composition, which is actually very minimal in minerals unlike ordinary water. Second is its neutral pH (power of hydrogen) of 7.5 that respects the natural balance of the skin.
She then shared that since Pierre Fabre is a pharmaceutical company, they treat the spring water as medicine, such that they package the liquid in a sterile environment. The production site is also directly connected to the spring itself.
“This process we call ‘from spring to spray’,” she said explaining that the only time the thermal spring water see sunlight again is when it is sprayed by the user.
Lastly, the product manager proudly said that spring water is proven safe for all skin types by over 150 clinical studies. Thus, the water remains as the key ingredient for all the company’s products, one of which is the Cleanance Expert.
The brand’s newest product to be made available for Filipinos, Cleanance Expert is a daily treatment solution especially made for acne prone skin. It eliminates mild to moderate blemishes, as well as hydrates and “mattifies” the skin minimizing shine.
Furthermore, it is specifically formulated using three active ingredients: Diolényl that limits the risk of bacterial proliferation, reduces redness and helps eliminate spots; X-Pressin that reduces blackheads and smoothens the skin’s texture; and Monolaurin that regulates the hyper-production of sebum to create a matte finish.
Besides the treatment solution, the Cleanance line also comes with a soapless gel cleanser and a toner for a three-step regimen to fight acne.
“With this, we offer Avene’s 20 years of experience for acne-prone skin since Cleanance was first introduced in the international now market. The range, which is simple and straightforward, is now available in the Philippines,” Tang ended.
