‘Kawaii’ Jaga from Japan
Kawaii is the most popular Japanese word used around the world because it simply translates to cute.  And one perfect personification of kawaii is Jaga, a bright yellow potato mascot that represents one of Japan’s most loved snack brands, Calbee.

In April, Jaga went all kawaii at The Manila Times with a surprise visit at to Intramuros, Manila.  And yes, the big yellow potato delighted everyone in editorial, even putting on hold a story conference that was underway.

Earlier this year, Calbee officially announced its entry in the Philippines by partnering with Filipino counterpart, Jack ‘n Jill, considered one of the top snack-maker companies in the country.

“We [at Calbee]have made the most exciting move ever as we expand our presence in the most promising market and its growing population–the Philippines.  Another important thing here is that Filipinos love snacks very much, and that’s very encouraging,” says Shinji Haruna, president and chief operating officer of Jack ‘n Jill Calbee.

“The only logical choice for us was to partner with the country’s no.1 snack brand that is URC’s Jack n Jill because we share the same values and qualities,” Haruna adds. “And we are confident that Calbee and Jack n Jill can bring he snacking experience of the Filipinos to a whole new level.”

Known for its innovative snacks, Calbee uses high quality potatoes produced under the Japanese standards of quality. Its range of products now available in the Philippines includes Potato Chips in Classic Salted, Cheddar and Sour Cream, and Wasabi flavors; Pizza
