• Fund-raising football tourney set next month

Aiming to raise funds for people battling cancer, KickStart Football will hold the Cancer Sucks Cup 2017 from August 19 and 26 at the Blue Pitch in Circuit, Makati City.

The fund-raising tournament is divided into Mixed Chill and Men’s+ Open divisions, both will be played in 7-a-side format.

Open to amateur players only, both categories require a minimum of seven and a maximum of 12 players per team.

The Mixed Chill will entertain 12 teams which must have two female players on their roster, with one of them playing on the pitch at all times.

Meanwhile, the Men’s+ Open will field 24 teams which could compete in any combination of players.

The beneficiary of the tourney will be the mother of one of the tournament organizers.

“I was really touched. When I shared my mom’s condition to them (co-organizers), they immediately thought of organizing the event,” said JB Bolaños, whose mother Paulina was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.

“When cancer strikes a family member, he or she is not the only one with the disease. It is shared by everyone in the family,” he said.

Bolaños and his KickStart Football co-founders Patrick Maramara, Aine de Guzman-Babiera and celebrity-host Steven Silva plan to make the Cancer Sucks Cup a yearly event to continue their advocacy of helping cancer patients.

KickStart Football is an organization, which holds trainings and open plays every Wednesday and Thursday at the Sparta Philippines in Mandaluyong City.

Those who are interested to join can message KickStart Football on their Facebook page.
