Fund shortage paralyzes Mindanao university

KIDAPAWAN CITY: Financial deficit grips the operations of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) in Kabacan, North Cotabato, stalling even the search for a substitute for the school head who resigned earlier amid protracted protests against him for alleged irregularities.

Christopher Cabilen, university officer-in-charge, yesterday said the search for a replacement of resigned Dr. Jesus Antonio Derije, USM president, could not take off because the selection committee lacks the required P1-million operational fund.

He said the Commission on Higher Education had earlier ordered the sourcing of the operation fund from tuition fees.

Cabilen said his inventory of the university cash assets recently unveiled a P5-million deficit.

Why spend P1million just to search for a state university president? Is the OIC merely painting a bleak picture so he can stay in that post longer? Nagsimulang masarapan si atthorny.
