On its sixth year, PLDT-Smart Foundation’s annual tribute to educators for Teachers’ Month, the “Gabay Guro” grand gathering, will take place on October 26 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

An education arm and flagship project of the PLDT Managers’ Club (PLDT MCI), its chairman, Chaye Cabal-Revilla, told The Sunday Times Magazine that the laudable endeavour is run by volunteer executives from the Manuel V. Pangilinan-owned conglomerate. She currently serves as its vice president for Finance.

Cabal-Revilla announced at a news conference this week that the program of Gabay Guro will take the form of a glittering concert with the country’s biggest stars performing for free. The show will be hosted by TV5 artists Edu Manzano and Derek Ramsay, and will feature the likes of child wonder Ryzza Mae; leading ladies Judy Ann Santos, Marian Rivera and Jodi Sta. Maria; Concert King and Queen Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez; and dramatic actor Rocco Nancino.

“As you can see, the artists who will go on stage for the tribute are from different stations, meaning to say, they have come together, despite the so called ‘network war,’ to show their appreciation for the nation’s teachers,” explained Cabal-Revilla who is the project’s brainchild. “They also waived their talent fees since they believe it is important to pay tribute to our teachers, having been students themselves.”

Aside from being treated to a free concert, Gabay Guro will also give away valuable prizes to two lucky teachers this year, namely a house and lot courtesy of Stateland Inc. and a brand new Foton LCV van.

There will also be livelihood program packages and cash gifts to be raffled off throughout the night.

Since 2007, Gabay Guro has been in the business of “changing the lives of those who changed ours,” by focusing on the core program of the foundation benefiting the Filipino teachers. This is defined by the pillars of scholarships, trainings, housing and educational facilities, livelihood programs, broadbanding and computerization, and teachers’ tribute.
