Dianne Galendez displayed nerve of steel in the finals
against veteran Nelia Santos to take home the P2 million cash prize of the first ever SM Millionaires Bowling Cup Open at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City on Thursday.
The 20-year-old Team Prima bowler from Davao City posted 217 against Santos’ 179 in the opening game. But she managed to pull off only 230-231 in the second game that resulted to a sudden death third game.
Galendez stood tall in the third game with a 242-220 score to bag the title and also a brand new Chevrolet Sonic car.
“It is a great time to spend the holidays with achievement like this. I’m very happy,” said the Ateneo De Davao Business Administration Management graduate. “I’m very thankful to my dad for coaching me and we are going to use the money for business.”
When asked if she’s planning to join the Philippine team after winning the tournament, Galendez said: “If there will be an opportunity for me, why not? Every athlete likes to represent the country in every competition abroad.”
Santos, 58, took home the P500,000 first runner up prize of the 30-day qualifier bowling competition that attracted 150 bowlers nationwide.
Filipino bowling legends Paeng Nepomuceno and CJ Suarez attended the event.
