HOMEGROWN mixed martial artist Dave “The Scarecrow” Galera lost to Singaporean Royston Wee via unanimous decision in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night 34 on Saturday night at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore,
Despite the loss, the 35-year-old Galera stayed optimistic and vowed to come back strong in his future fights.
“It’s a great learning experience and I’ll be back stronger,” said Galera, who holds an unbeaten record in five fights in the local MMA scene before losing his debut in the UFC. “Thank you for all the cheers of my fellow Filipinos. It’s not good to lose but I will take it as learning experience.”
Galera, who signed a six-fight contract with UFC, couldn’t hold on after engaging to a ground fight with Wee all-throughout the three rounds. He tried to take down Wee but failed in his most attempts against the Singaporean, who used his grappling experience.
All judges scored 30-26 in Wee’s favor.
The Baguio City native Galera joined Filipino Mark “The Wrecking Machine” Munoz and Filipino-American Brandon “The Truth” Vera in the UFC family.
“Like what I expected, it’s too early for him (Galera) to compete in the UFC,” said Universal Reality Combat Championship founder Alvin Aguilar. “The level in UFC is very high but I’m expecting him to learn more and improve.”
