INTERNATIONAL Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia and FIDE Master (FM) Paulo Bersamina scored back-to-back wins in the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2013 in Sari, Iran, on Saturday.
Garcia beat Fang Yuxiang of China and Ismailov Mukhit of Kazakhstan in the Open 18-under open while Bersamina outlasted Kalikov Temirlan of Kazakhstan and Mosadeghpoor Masoud of Iran in the Open 16-under.
Jerlyn Mae San Diego crushed Altantuya Boldbaatar of Mongolia and Mohanty Aditi of India in the girls’ 8- under.
Meanwhile, Alekhine Nouri, the world’s youngest FM at seven, lost to Mahitosh Dey of India but bounced back in the second round by demolishing Zamon Bozorali of Tajikistan in the Open 8-under class.
In other results, Daryl Unix Samantila was yielded to Veerappan Aravindh Chithambaram of India then split the point with Aibek Isakzhanov of Kyrgyzstan in the Open 14-under; Istraelito Rilloraza halved the point with Erdemdalai Yondonjamts of Mongolia then lost to Saurabh Anand og Mongolia in the Open 12-under; and Deniel Quizon bowed to Docheshmeh Amirmohamad of Iran then beat another Iranian, Jaza Jamal Ahmed in the Open 10-under.
