General Santos City ruled the youth category with five golds while Philippine Air Force (PAF) bagged three golds in the elite division of the boxing competition at the close of the 2013 Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) Philippine National Games at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Lou Alde Regel led the Gensan boxing team by outpointing Zamboanga City’s Kevin Jake Enriquez, 15-10, in the finals of the light flyweight division. Vergel Deguma followed suit with a 22-13 triumph over Rizal Technological University’s Ste–phen Bontoyan in the flyweight class and Angelou Plania stopped Jeric Ferrer of Tayabas in the first round of their bantamweight bout.
Other winners for Gensan were Alexcel Dargantes over Sarah Mag-Usara, 27-16, in the girls flyweight finals and Grace Paula Ganzon over Mandaluyong’s Gemma Keziah, 15-12, in the girls bantamweight.
As expected Asian Games gold medalist Rey Saludar overcame a 21-17 win over Gerson Nietes of Philippine Air Force to hand Philippine Army’s lone gold in the elite flyweight bout, while Davao had Nesty Petecio coming up with a lopsided 31-5 victory over Negros Occidental’s Rizal Pasuit in the girls elits featherweight finals.
The Airmen had Junel Cantancio stopping Mandaluyong’s Daffy Dempo in the first round of the elite lightweight bout and Dennis Galvan securing a 28-10 victory over Jay-Arr Inson in the welterweight finals, while Rolando Tacuyan won over Bago City’s Jim Boy Vicera, 14-8, in the elite middleweight category.
Zamboanga City had also two golds courtesy of Eumir Felix Marcial over PAF’s Darwin Tindahan, 28-10, in the lightwelterweight level and Jeric Fernando over Negros’ Aljun Oro, 15-9, in the pinweight class.
Other winners in the competition supported by Milo, STI Colleges, Standard Insurance, Procter and Gamble, Ayala Corporation, Summit Mineral Water, Bala Energy Drink, LBC, 7-Eleven, Tea Monkey, Delos Santos Medical Center, SPIN.ph, Splash Island, Enchanted Kingdom, Everlast, Innoderm—Metropharma Phil. Inc., Peak Martial Arts and BSP Employees Association, are Bago City’s Rogen Ladon over Joerines Bernardo via default in the elite lightflyweight category and Mario Fernandez over Quirino Mellejor, 15-6 in the bantamweight bout.
