The city government has given local police force at least a month to shape up and improve their performance after a series of controversies involving several policemen. Mayor Ronnel Rivera on Tuesday said that he directed Sr. Supt. Froilan Quidilla, city police director, and other top police officers in the area to set the necessary reforms in the city police’s operations and make sure that all police personnel are performing properly.

Rivera said he agreed with City Councilor Franklin Gacal Jr., the city council’s committee on public order and safety chair, to set the ultimatum following the killing of criminology student Randy Quirante on July 10 after being mistaken for a carjacker during a police operation and the escape of three detainees from the Bula police station lockup on July 16.
