PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino 3rd on Friday hinted that marriage would be his “priority” after his term ends, an admission that drew cheers from his audience during a speech in Bulacan province where he graced Gawad Kalinga’s (GK) 13th anniversary.
After being introduced by GK founder Tony Meloto, Aquino took the microphone and gave his listeners a peek at his love life.
“When Mr. Tony Meloto was introducing me, I thought he was going to say ‘eligible bachelor. I intend to change that status come July 1,” the President said to the delight of the cheering crowd.
“Meaning, that will be the priority,” he added, eliciting laughter from his audience.
Aquino’s term ends on June 30, when the next President shall take over the helm of government from him.
In a previous interview, Aquino had confirmed that his love life is no longer “zero” and maintained that he plans to enter into a more serious romantic relationship after his term.
The bachelor President admitted that he usually goes out on dates, along with a coterie of bodyguards.
“They are very nice… They remember I am the Commander-in-Chief,” he said of the elite Presidential Guards during an interview with ANC.
Aquino had revealed that he had his first girlfriend at age 18 and has been in numerous relationships since then.
The President has been rumored to be seeing newly-crowned Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach long before the latter joined the pageant.
Reports said the two had dated for months in early 2015 and came to a “mutual understanding,” a term that connotes being a step closer to being in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.
Prior to Wurtzbach, Aquino had been linked to TV5’s Trish Roque, actress Iza Calzado and Bais City Mayor Karen Villanueva.
Also, he had been “involved” with Korina Sanchez, now the wife of Liberal Party standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd; actress Maricel Morales; Barbara Milano; journalist Bernadette Sembrano; Shalani Soledad; Barbie Palagos; stylist Liz Uy; stockbroker Len Lopez; teacher Bunny Calica; and TV host Grace Lee.
