Davaoeño Zanieboy Gialon learned golf at the tender age of 12 in his native province through the encouragement of his uncles who are all serious golfers.
Gialon, who, sings and plays basketball during his leisure time, said that his life as a pro golfer is a predictable routine though one that he enjoys.
“I play from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the morning and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the afternoon,” he said. “I enjoy my life—sometimes I win, sometimes I don’t win.”
Gialon broke a three-year title drought by winning the ICTSI Calatagan Golf Challenge crown last June at the Calatagan Golf Club in Batangas.
He considers the victory a memorable one. “I consistently won four days in a row,” he beamed with pride.
Gialon said his simple goal is to surpass local players whom he idolized. He said that he’s looking up to local ace Juvic Pagunsan.
“He’s a friend,” Gialon said, pertaining to Pagunsan. “Another local golfer I admire is Miguel Tabuena.” Gialon said that he’s proud as a golfer and as a Filipino that two of his comrades in the sport have extensively competed in Europe and even the 2016 Rio Olympics.
