The gifts, decors, and houseware (GDH) industry will craft its industry roadmap which is set to be completed by August 15 this year.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the University of the Philippines Institute for Small-Scale Industries (UP-ISSI) has partnered to create strategic roadmap for GDH industry which both entities signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) Tuesday, April 7.
The partnership of DTI and UP-ISSI aims to analyze the current state of GDH industry and identify its strategies to support its growth as well as the government’s support needed for the expansion of the industry.
Like other industry roadmaps, the GDH roadmap eyes to set goals for short-, medium-, and long-term.
In 2013, the holiday décor sector had a revenue of $46 million from $26 million in 2013, an increase of 75 percent.
On the other hand, houseware sector revenue had a total of $242 million in 2013, slightly declined by 3.90 percent from 2012’s $249 million.
The Industry Roadmapping Project is an initiative of the Board of Investments (BOI) launched in 2012 which targets to identify industry’s goals, gaps, and interventions needed to grow the industry.
“The roadmaps identify the vision, goals and strategies for the short, medium, and long term growth of industries. These sectoral roadmaps are the building blocks of the Manufacturing Industry Roadmap (MIR) and the Comprehensive National Industrial Strategy [CNIS],” the DTI explained.
To date, there are now 27 industry roadmaps and there are more sectors that expressed their interests to craft their own roadmaps.
