Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile’s co-accused and former aide Jessica Lucila ‘Gigi’ Reyes on Tuesday asked the Sandiganbayan’s Third Division to suspend the proceedings in the plunder case she is facing pending the Supreme Court (SC) resolution to her petitions. Reyes filed an Amended Petition for Certiorari and Prohibition with a plea for a temporary restraining order (TRO) before the SC, wherein she questioned the rulings of the Ombudsman and the Sandiganbayan finding probable cause against her. Reyes is among the respondents in the P172-million plunder case filed against Enrile in connection with the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam. The trial on was set to start on January 13 with respect to Reyes and another respondent, businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles. In asking the graft court to suspend the proceedings, her counsel said that Reyes’ petitions were based on the ground that she was deprived of due process when the Ombudsman “failed” to provide her copies of Ruby Tuason’s (one of the accused) sworn statements despite repeated requests.
