GILAS Pilipinas’ four-game winning streak ended with a 55-76, defeat to Iran in the semifinals of the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup at the Wuhan Sports Center in Wuhan, China on Friday.
Gilas will play against the loser of the Taiwan vs. China match for third place while Iran will face the winner.
Gilas Pilipinas struggled against the onslaught of the Iranians led by 7’2 National Basketball Association center Hamed Haddadi. Iran established an early lead, 26-36, before the halftime break and Gilas couldn’t recover burdened with a 35-55 deficit in the third period. Iran’s long-range shooting even added to the Philippine squad’s woes.
Talk ‘N Text’s Ranidel De Ocampo, Meralco’s Gary David and Ginebra point guard LA Tenorio posted 11 points each for Gilas Pilipinas.
Mohammad Jamshidi led Iran with 19 points while 18-year-old Behnam Yakhchalidehkordi scattered 18 points, 13 of which were posted beginning the third period.
