Gilas Pilipinas faces India in quarterfinals


Gilas Pilipinas will play against India today in the knockout quarterfinals of the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup after sweeping three previous games at the Wuhan Sports Center in Wuhan, China. Gilas defeated Taiwan, Singapore and Jordan in the elimination round.

Game time is set at 5:15 p.m.

Ranidel De Ocampo, a 6’5 forward from Talk N’ Text who finished with 14 points, notched a three-pointer that allowed Gilas Pilipinas to win over Jordan, 71-70, and keep an unbeaten slate in Group B .

Gilas head coach Chot Reyes warned his wards not to underestimate India that won over Indonesia by a 36-point margin to gain entry into the quarterfinals.

Gilas Pilipinas is expected to bank on the prowess of Rain or Shine playmaker Paul Lee, Meralco’s Gary David, San Miguel Beer’s 6’10 center JunMar Fajardo, Rain or Shine’s forward Beau Belga, Ginebra’s LA Tenorio and 6’11 center naturalized Filipino Marcus Douthit.
