GILAS Pilipinas posted its second victory after convincingly beating Singapore 74-57, in the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup at the Wuhan Sports Center in Wuhan, China.
Meralco shooting guard Gary David and Rain or Shine point guard Paul Lee finished with 10 points each while Letran’s Kevin Alas and Rain or Shine’s Beau Belga each added eight points to secure the Philippines’ 2-0 win-loss record in Group B.
The Filipinos started the game on a high note with a 21-10 lead before sustaining the charge in second quarter and improving their advantage to 32-17.
A back-to-back basket from Belga and a three-point play from Japeth Aguilar provided the Filipinos an insurmountable 53-37 edge in the third period.
National coach Chot Reyes only fielded the 6’11 naturalized Filipino center Marcus Douthit for 15 minutes because of Gilas’ big lead against Singapore. Douthit didn’t score a single point.
Gilas will play against Jordan today.
