THE Gilas Pilipinas will test its mettle against equally tough Kazakshtan on Friday in a tune-up match set at 7 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum.
Coach Chot Reyes said that the game against Kazakshtan would allow his wards to gauge the strength of the 47th ranking team in FIBA from Central Asia.
“We don’t have any idea of their team so that this game is very important for us,” said Reyes.
Reyes added that their game against Kazakhstan is important because they can possibly be their opponent in the knockout quarterfinals of the Asian world qualifier on August 1 to 11, at the Mall of Asia Arena and at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Gilas Pilipinas will be spearheaded by naturalized 6’11 Marcus Douthit, 6’10 June Mar Fajardo, 6’10 Japeth Aguilar, Ranidel de Ocampo, Marc Pingris, Gabe Norwood, Jimmy Alapag, LA Tenorio, Jayson Castro, Larry Fonacier, Gary David and Jeff Chan.
Host Philippines is bracketed in Group B along with Jordan, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia while Kazakhstan is in Group D with Bahrain, India and Thailand.
