Gilas routs India, enters semifinals


PLAYMAKER Paul Lee led Gilas Pilipinas to a 70-66 victory over the charging India squad on Thursday in the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup at the Wuhan Sports Center in Wuhan, China.

Rain or Shine starting point guard Lee, who led Gilas’ blitz in the last three games, finished with 15 points, naturalized Filipino 6’11 center Marcus Douthit contributed 14 points with 12 rebounds and Talk ‘ N Text’s Ranidel De Ocampo 13 points.

With the win, Gilas Pilipinas will face defending champion Iran in the semifinals today.

Gilas enjoyed a huge lead before India narrowed the gap but lost steam against the Philippine squad. Gary David scored a jumper to establish Gilas biggest lead, 40-22, in the second quarter.

Amritphal Singh led India with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
