Barangay Ginebra San Miguel returns to their winning ways after beating Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 93-81, in the elimination round of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) at the Al-Shabab Sports Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Friday (Saturday in Manila).
Top league scorer Orlando Johnson played below his average but still managed to notch a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds plus seven assists for Barangay Ginebra. Mark Caguioa played aggressively scoring 16 of his 21 points in the opening period. Caguioa also finished with five rebounds and two assists.
Barangay Ginebra controlled most parts of the game, leading by as much as 20 points in the first half. LA Tenorio boosted the team’s blitz by finishing with a double-double 20 points and 11 rebounds with four assists and three steals to his total. Japeth Aguilar chipped in 15 points.
Rain or Shine ended their Dubai trip with a 1-1 win-loss record after the loss. Wendell McKines had a solid game, finishing with 35 points and 14 rebounds. Paul Lee added 10 points, while Jericho Cruz and Ryan Arana contributed nine points apiece for the Elasto Painters.
Elasto Painters are now tied for last with the Blackwater Elite and NLEX Road Warriors all bearing 1-3 records.
Meanwhile, PBA returns to the Araneta Coliseum today with Barako Bull going against Meralco at 3 p.m. while sister teams San Miguel Beermen and Purefoods Star Hotshots collide at 5:15 p.m.
