BALANGA CITY: Typhoon Glenda left P435 million damage to fisheries and crops in Bataan, provincial agriculturist Imelda Inieto reported to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office over the weekend.
“Napakalaking damage na iniwan ni Glenda sa lalawigan lalo nasa fisheries [Glenda left a huge damage in the province especially in fisheries],” she said.
The damage in fisheries, including fishponds in Hermosa, Orani, Samal and Abucay towns, was placed at P310 million.
Fishermen from sitio Bakawan in barangay Wawa in Abucay town are requesting government and Good Samaritans to help them with fishing bancas with engines and nets after losing these valued items for their livelihood.
Estimated loss in palay production was P5M in palay production and P120M in vegetables and high value crops like bananas, mangoes and other fruit trees.
Inieto said the report in palay production was only partial and she expected the amount to rise as soon as she gets hold of complete reports from 11 towns and one city.
“We have coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Fisheries that are preparing rehabilitation programs,” Inieto said.
