Top clubs Global FC and Ceres La Salle FC will clash in the last match of the first round of the 2016 season of the United Football League (UFL) at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium today.
Global boasts of an unblemished slate of 10 wins while Ceres La Salle is No.2 with a record of nine wins and a loss.
During the previous meetings of the two clubs in this year’s UFL Cup, Global swept Ceres in a two-game series to bring home the crown.
The men of coach Leigh Manson were powered to a 2-1 victory by the goals of Serbian defender Milan Nikolic and midfielder Matthew Hartmann on March 3.
The team completed its impressive run with a 3-1 triumph in the finals through Azkal Misagh Bahadoran’s brace.
Manson said that his team’s morale is high, as they’ve kept clean sheets in their last nine games in the league.
“What is positive for us are the clean sheets because the last goals that we conceded was during the game against Stallion FC in the first game of the season. That’s nine games now that we haven’t conceded a goal,” Manson said after their 12-0 win against the Nomads on Thursday.
He added that he expects a tough outing against their close rivals not to mention they are aiming for a perfect record at the end of the initial 11 games of the tournament.
“For sure the game against Ceres would be a really interesting game. It would be exciting and I am looking forward to that game. We’ll see if we can finish the first half with a perfect record,” Manson said.
Meanwhile, the defending UFL champions are also upbeat after blazing through their past nine opponents since losing their first game to the Loyola Meralco Sparks FC, 3-2.
In their previous match, the Busmen demolished seventh seed Green Archers United FC, 7-1, through the goals of Lee Jeong Woo, Jeffrey Christiaens and Adrian Gallardo Valdes.
