TOURISM arrivals are expected to grow at a moderate pace this year as developed economies experience uneven growth.
Weekly Views from the Metro, A Metrobank note, said Philippine tourism is likely to be tempered by the potential weight of “uneven economic growth from advanced economies.”
The Department of Tourism (DOT) targets 6 million tourists to arrive this year.
In the first quarter of the year, tourist arrivals rose by 15.12 percent to 1.602 million from 1.391 million visitors a year earlier.
Koreans were still the top foreign visitors, accounting for 23.94 percent or 383,544 of the total arrivals.
Making up the top sources of tourism for the Philippines are the United States (14.4 percent), China (11.5 percent), Japan (9 percent), and Australia (4.2 percent).
China posted the fastest growth with almost double the number year-on-year.
