Leading team Global FC is aiming for back-to-back wins when it tackles JP Voltes FC in the second round of the United Football League (UFL) today at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
The Global-JP Voltes game starts at 4 p.m.
Global is fresh from thumping the Green Archers United FC in their previous match while Voltes wants to bounce back from a late-game loss against Loyola Meralco Sparks FC.
Global, the reigning UFL Cup champion, holds a record of 13 wins and two draws for a total of 41 points with just four games remaining in the season.
According to newly hired head coach John Burridge, they are in a must win situation against the Japanese-backed Voltes to secure a rare UFL double.
“It’s not over until it’s over. We don’t think about anything else except our game against JP Voltes. If we beat them, it’s just about over. We need to win against them,” he said after their game against the Green Archers.
Global FC is expected to rely on their Azkal-reinforced roster led by Misagh Bahadoran and Patrick Deyto with support from foreign standouts Hikaru Minegeshi and Ivan Petrovic.
On the other hand, Voltes will be banking on the prowess of veteran Japanese stars Masaki Yanagawa and Yu Hoshide as well as Filipino booter J Baguioro and John Celiz.
Meanwhile, sixth seed Stallion FC will be facing eight seed Forza in the first game of the UFL double-header at 1:30 p.m.
The Stallions, fresh from their 2-2 draw against Kaya FC, have a record of six wins, six draws and three defeats while Forza FC has a 4-1-11 win-draw-loss card.
