Global FC resumes its campaign as it faces Tampines Rovers FC in the quarterfinals of the 2016 RHB Singapore Cup today at the Jurong West Stadium in Singapore.
The game is at 8 p.m.
The team, which boasts of a roster that features Azkals stars together with foreign recruits, will be playing Tampines Rovers in a two-legged contest for a seat in the semifinal round.
Global FC earned berth in the final eight by virtue of a commanding 5-0 win over Cambodia’s Nagaworld FC in the preliminary phase of the competition.
High-scoring Japanese winger Hikaru Minegeshi notched a brace performance during their outing while OJ Clarino, Omid Nazari and Daisuke Sato each score a goal.
Leigh Manson’s booters are currently on a high after clinching the season-opening United Football League (UFL) Cup 2016 in April and erecting an undefeated 7-0 record in their ongoing domestic competition.
On the other hand, Tampines is seated in the second spot of their mother league with a record of 10 wins, four draws and two losses in their initial games.
During Global FC’s campaign in the previous edition of the annual regional club football competition, the men in blue and yellow settled for fourth-place finish following their exit in the semifinal round.
National team standouts Misagh Bahadoran, Dennis Villanueva, Amani Aguinaldo and goalkeeper Patrick Deyto are slated to lead Global FC’s attempt to once again qualify to the next stage.
Meanwhile, reigning UFL champions Ceres La Salle FC will play in the other quarterfinal match against Brunei DPMM FC at the Jalan Besar Stadium scheduled on Thursday.
Global and Ceres are the remaining non-Singaporean teams playing in the tournament, which initially featured nine local clubs and three international sides from Cambodia and the Philippines.
