Global FC bows out of Singapore Cup

Filipino Football club Global FC crashed out of the RHB Singapore Cup 2015 following a 1-3 loss against Albirex Niigata FC in the semifinals at the Jurong East Stadium in Singapore late Tuesday evening.

Global FC failed to grab an early advantage on aggregate during the first leg of the semifinals as their foes grabbed the lead by a solitary goal courtesy of forward Rion Taki.

In their recent meeting, the men of Albirex Niigata swiftly took the upper hand through a goal of striker Atsushi Kawata in the 10th minute extending their lead to 0-2 on aggregate.

The United Football League squad scrambled to launch an offense hoping to reply to the early conversion of their foes but was unable to score a goal until the break.

In the second half, striker Mark Hartmann managed to reduce the deficit to just a single point by scoring a goal.

The reinvigorated attack of Global FC penetrated the territory of their rivals in the greater part of the final half of the game, led by Misagh Bahadoran and Hartmann, but to no avail.

The Philippines’ hope of overturning the advantage of Albirex Niigata grew dim with another goal by Taki in the 82nd minute.

Hartmann pushed hard in the dying minutes of regulation but was unable to notch goals until the final whistle.

With the loss, Global FC will now vie for third place as they face DPMM Brunei FC on Friday to conclude their campaign in the international invitational tilt.

Before entering the semifinals, the Philippines achieved success in the early rounds of the competition winning against Hougang United FC, 2-1, and Geylang International FC, 4-2.
