Filipino football club Global FC lost to Albirex Niigata FC, 0-1, in the first leg of the Singapore Cup semifinals at Clementi Stadium in Singapore on Friday evening
After being postponed for three days because of heavy haze in the stadium, the match finally pushed through.
Mark Hartmann had a chance at the goal but the goalkeeper blocked his shot during the early minutes of the game.
Misagh Bahadoran made the same attempt but was foiled by Niigata’s shot-stopper.
Albirex Niigata launched an offensive leading to a goal by Rion Taki in the 52nd minute.
Running out of time, Global FC’s front line, led by Bahadoran and Hartmann with young Paolo Salenga, tried their best to post an equalizing goal but failed until the match reached the 90-minute mark.
Six of Global FC’s players were called to play for the national team in its upcoming game against North Korea on October 8.
