United Football League club Global FC escaped Hougang United FC, 2-1, in extra time to gain entry into the quarterfinals of the 2015 RHB Singapore Cup.
The men of the powerhouse Philippine club were given a scare after the Singaporean club notched an opening goal following a successful free-kick conversion by Equatoguinean striker Chupe in the 39th minute.
Despite being down by a goal going into the halftime break, Global FC came back with vengeance as Norio Suzuki equalized the situation with a goal of his own in the 51st minute.
Both teams exchange blows, hoping to clinch the game-winning goal before the end of regulation but no goal went through until the 90th minute forcing the game to go into overtime.
In the early moments of the first half of the extra time, returning Global FC and ex-Azkal midfielder Jason De Jong scored a goal at the 103rd minute mark and sealed the win for the Filipino squad.
The only Filipino club in the prestigious international club competition in Singapore is now slated to face another Singaporean squad Geylang International FC for the two-legged quarterfinals later this year.
