Asia’s first Grandmaster (GM) Eugene Torre drew his third-round match with seventh seed GM Gundavaa Bayarsaikhan of Mongolia but it wasn’t good enough to stay on top in the 2015 Asian Zone 3.3 Zonal Chess Championships in Ho Chi Minh CIty, Vietnam. With 2.5 points, Torre fell into a six-way tie for second with Bayarsaikhan, top seed GM Le Quang Liem and No. 2 GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and FIDE Master (FM) Le Tuan Minh of Vitenam, and GM Zhang Zhong of Singapore. International Master (IM) Wynn Zaw Htun of Myanmar grabbed the solo lead with three points following his third-round win over IM Nguyen Van Huy of Vietnam. Erstwhile co-leader IM Haridas Pascua, who bowed to Truong Son, dropped to eighth spot with two points along with nine other players. Joining him in the group are Filipino GMs Richard Bitoon, Julio Catalino Sadorra, Darwin Laylo and Oliver Barbosa.
