The Sandiganbayan’s First Division on Monday granted former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of Pampanga a five-hour furlough to visit her brother at a Makati hospital.
Arroyo, who represents Pampanga’s second district in Congress, is under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC).
She is facing a P366-million plunder suit for the alleged misuse of state charity funds during her presidency
The anti-graft court allowed Arroyo to visit Arturo Macapagal from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Arturo,72, has been at the Intensive Care Unit of the Makati Medical Center since July 2 for prostrate cancer.
Arroyo filed an urgent motion on Friday asking that she be allowed to visit her brother.
The court directed Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ricardo Marquez to provide adequate escorts and to make sure that Arroyo will not go to any other place but the hospital.
