GMA seeks furlough to attend brother’s inurnment rites

Former president and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is asking permission from the Sandiganbayan to attend the 40th day Mass, inurnment, and post-inurnment prayers for her late brother and Olympian Arturo dela Rosa Macapagal, who succumbed to prostate cancer last month. In a motion filed before the court’s First Division, Arroyo’s lawyers said that September 19 will mark the 40th day since her brother passed away and that “[a]s part of the memorial service, a mass is scheduled at 11 a.m at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City. The 40th day is meaningful to Filipinos since it holds out the most important promise of all: that the deceased will meet his Maker.” After the mass, Mr. Macapagal’s ashes will be inurned.
