Former President Gloria Arroyo took her oath of office as congressman at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, where she is detained while awaiting a plunder trial.
Mrs. Arroyo, who was reelected as representative of Pampanga’s 2nd District, has been under hospital arrest since February 2012.
A statement released by her office on Monday said Arroyo took her oath before lawyer Galileo Angeles and six of her constituents.
Among her guests are a teacher from Lubao, a student from Guagua, a vendor from Porac, the president of the Farmers-Irrigators association of Floridablanca, a nurse from Sasmuan and the head of the tricycle drivers association of Sta. Rita.
Mrs. Arroyo, who has been suffering from back and neck problems since she stepped down as President, beat Charlie Chua and Lalah Leoncio, both independents, and Vivian Dabu of the ruling Liberal Party in the May elections.
