Go native at Tesoro’s

Having mixed up the many dates in my calendar, I missed, to my deep regret, the birthday celebration of Alice Tesoro Guerrero at the Turf Room of the Manila Polo Club.

Instead of gifts, Alice requested her guests to send donations to the following: the Order of Malta, Philippines, the Our Lady of Peace Foundation and the Santuario de San Antonio.
At this time of writing, I am looking forward to the launching of the book of Salud S. Tesoro also at the Manila Polo Club, the event to be hosted by Carlos Celdran.

Doña Salud lost her mother at the tender age of six. She was raised by her maternalgrandmother, Gregoria, with the help of an uncle, Manuel Pineda, who worked for an American exporter based in Manila.

Needless to say, Doña Salud’s exposure to the business gave her an advantageous and valuable experience.

Seventy years ago, Atty. Nestor and Doña Salud established Tesoro’s in Escolta in 1945.

Admirably, the Tesoro family has dedicated three generations to the promotion and purveyance of only the very best native products made from indigenous materials, rendering their stores attractive not only to the locals but also to tourists.

To this day, Alice Tesoro-Guerrero devotedly manages its Makati branch on a daily basis.

Techno Arts Camp closes
The Techno Arts Camp for vulnerable groups on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction held its closing ceremony on August 16 at the BSP building after a 10-day intensive, exclusive and transformative workshop.

UNESCO director general Irina Bokova sent the following message:

“I wish to congratulate the Philippines for dedicating the month of July to disability rehabilitation and prevention. The First Techno Arts Camp for persons with disabilities, organized by the UNESCO Dream Center/Artists for Peace is a ground-breaking initiative.

I thank the Earthsavers DREAMS Ensemble and Cecile G. Alvarez for the generous vision and all the partners involved in this initiative. I wish every success to all those who are a part of this wonderful adventure that enriches each and every one of us.”
