Summer is a season and reason for standing out. It’s a time to flaunt a carefree, breezy vibe as you stroll the city streets or wherever summer destination. Proudly Filipino fashion Plains & Prints channels this vibe with five new collections for the season to make the modern fashionista shine.
The brand displays a bolder, more eye-catching take on summer dressing with brighter colors, more interesting prints, and fun cuts.
“We’re going bolder, brighter with new prints. Subdued is so last year,” says designer Rhett Eala, the label’s creative director.
The Hawaii pre-summer collection, already out in stores, is inspired by the tropical vibe of the islands, featuring audacious prints in hues of green, yellow, salmon, and peach.
“It is the tropical vibe but we didn’t want to go the usual print route, so we translated Hawaii via digital printing,” says Eala.
The vibrant seas and colorful culture of the South Pacific is interpreted into the brand’s Tahiti collection, featuring kaleidoscopic floral and feather prints in bright shades of orange, cobalt blue, mint green, and pink.
“Tahiti is destination that isn’t really so common. Some of the motifs in their art and clothing are flowers and feathers, so we incorporated stylized versions of it in the collection,” Eala continues.
Giving a taste of East Coast summers in America is the Cape Cod collection, a breezy, fresh feel with pieces featuring intricate prints of bold flowers with gemstone prints in shades of yellow, blue, purple, blush, and white.
“It is a summer cruise feel for Cape Cod, something subtly sophisticated yet still fashion-forward,” Eala states.
Scandinavian collection takes inspiration from the clean, fresh dress styles popular in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, with light, breezy pieces in pastel colors with accents of washed-out neons and blue.
On the other hand, fashion-savvy ladies will love the Metamorphosis capsule collection. Taking inspiration from bugs and insects, the collection is a fun mix of cute silhouettes with insect patterns in warm shades of blush, blue, and off-white.
“We want to push the boundaries at Plains & Prints. This includes the selection of prints. We wanted a collection that veers away from the usual prints, so we came up with using bugs as an inspiration. So for this collection, we have dragonflies, ladybugs, and other insect-inspired prints,” the designer ended.
