Goat thieves with shabu nabbed in La Union

BACNOTAN, La Union: Five persons trying to transport stolen goats were arrested in an anti-drug checkpoint along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion on Wednesday. Chief Inspector Reynaldo Soria, town police chief, identified the suspects who are all from Pangasinan as Willy Fernandez, 43, of Alibago, Santa Barbara; Boyet Flores, 35, of Casanglaan, Dagupan City; Jose Estacio, 43, of Pantal, Dagupan City; Bernie Zabala, 48, of Mayombo District, Dagupan City; and Jonathan Osilla, 34, of Maminding, Santa Barbara. Soria said the suspects, who were onboard a green Toyota Corolla (TAN 855) driven by Zabala, were stopped at the checkpoint and four goats were found inside the car with the suspects. After an hour, a man arrived reporting his missing goats. Further inspection of the car yielded a matchbox that contained three sachets of shabu, two kitchen knives, three cellphones and a lighter. One of the suspects confessed they were about to deliver the goats to a restaurant in Dagupan City. La Union police are checking if the suspects are responsible for several incidents involving stolen goats from local farms and if they are members of a robbery gang based in Mabini and Pozzorubio towns in Pangasinan.
