Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) flyweight champion CJ “The Golden Boy” De Tomas will defend his crown against Alvin “Kastigo” Ramirez of Yaw-Yan Buhawi in URCC 28: Vindication on November 6, at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City.
De Tomas, 20, is considered one of the youngest fighters in local mixed martial arts (MMA) unbeaten in six bouts.
“I always finish my opponent through takedowns. I might as well finish him via submission or referee stoppage,” said De Tomas during the prefight news conference on Monday at the Resorts World in Pasay City.
De Tomas’ challenger Ramirez is keen on winning his first URCC title since he joined the league in 2009.
“I have learned my lessons from my flaws. I will not let De Tomas dictate the game inside the cage,” said Ramirez on his fourth attempt at the belt.
“I will get that belt. I will,” Ramirez added.
The 5’5 Ramirez holds an MMA record of seven wins against eight losses.
The main event will feature a three-on-three battle as Team Chan goes up against Team Esteroso.
“It is time to show to the people that mixed martial arts has a new format. People think its going to be a rumble but there’s a lot of striking involve since you have to put yourself on the advantage,” URCC founder Alvin Aguilar told The Manila Times.
In the other matches, URCC featherweight champion Do Gyeom Lee will defend his title against current Destiny MMA featherweight champion Ryan Dela Cruz.
In the women’s flyweight championship bout, Geli Bulaong will defend her title for the first time against Chinese sanda champion Yan Qi Hui.
“Expect fireworks from Bulaong as she is set to prove that she is indeed one of the Philippine’s best,” added Aguilar.
Meanwhile, Red “The Filipino Bolo Punch” Romero will face Miguel Mosquera in a featherweight match, strawweight Solomon Dultra takes on Mj Abrillo, bantamweight Drex Zamboanga battles Sem Bicaldo and Arjay Bongala goes up against Rodian Menchavez in another bantamweight bout.
