• Golf back for Games battle

RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazilian professional Adilson da Silva will hit the first Olympic golf shot for 112 years on Thursday (Friday in Manila) as the sport makes its return already fighting for its place in the Games. On a Rio Olympic course that has a caiman crocodile or two hiding among the traps, golf highlights the sixth day of competition along with Australian sisters Cate and Bronte Campbell battling for the women’s 100 metres freestyle in swimming and gymnastics star Simone Biles bidding for a new gold. The 44-year-old da Silva, who is based in South Africa, will be joined by Canada’s Graham Delaet and South Korea’s An Byeong-Hun in the first group out at 1030 GMT.
