• Gonzaga mayor’s family seeks NBI help

THE family of slain Mayor Carlito Pentecostes Jr. of Gonzaga town in Cagayan has sought the intervention of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) “to conduct its own inquiry” surrounding the brutal killing on Monday.

The call for NBI probe came as the bereaved family expressed doubts over the police claim that the New People’s Army (NPA) was behind the brutal killing of Pentecostes.

Police report has indeintified a certain David Soriano alias Ka Colly who was captured by the CCTV (Close Circuit Television) which police said is the same person who is second in command of the NPA Northern Front Committee.

Also, a note written in the local dialect said the killing was carried out by the NPA since the late mayor allowed the national government-sanctioned black sand mining in the area.

Edward Pentecostes, brother of the slain mayor, said they are seeking the assistance of the NBI to conduct their own and separate investigation.

“We are seeking the assistance of the [NBI] to conduct their own and separate investigation over our brother’s gruesome killing. We believe they have the expertise to conduct such investigation,” Edward said.

Mayor Pentecostes, 60, was shot to death by at least two of the eight armed men in camouflage who approached him while he was speaking during the flag raising ceremony at the town hall grounds.
