RICHARD Gonzales and Ian Lariba dominated the singles open events of the Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) Philippine National Games (PNG) at the Amoranto Stadium in Quezon City on Friday.
Gonzales, 42, a seasoned national team member, outclassed fellow national player Rodel Valle, 11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9, in the men’s singles open finals. Lariba, a member of the De La Salle University women’s team, beat fellow La Sallian Donna Gamilla, 11-7, 11-5, 11-5, in the women’s singles finals.
Gonzales bagged another gold medal by leading the Bacolod City-LOPTTA team to a 3-0 win over University of Santo Tomas in the men’s team event class. The women’s team of Bacolod City-LOPTTA also topped the women’s team event by beating De La Salle University 3-0.
The other champions were Jerald Cristobal and Ian Lariba of La Salle (mixed doubles), Valle and Gonzales of Bacolod City-LOPTTA (men’s doubles) and Rose Jean Padol and Ayra Malabayabas of Bacolod City-LOPTTA (women’s doubles).
