Good news for hyper-acidic coffee lovers


Millions of Filipinos drink coffee every day. In fact, it is estimated that eight out of 10 Filipinos drink at least two cups of coffee daily, whether they are piping hot or iced cold.
So what are the benefits of drinking coffee?

Besides perking up lazy mornings and sleepy afternoons, various studies reveal that drinking coffee in moderation helps reduce the risks for Type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, heart and cardiovascular diseases, stroke and cancers of the liver, kidney and prostate.

But while most Filipinos enjoy cup after cup of stimulating coffee, some cut back on their brew because it hurts their stomach and they cannot tolerate drinking more than a cup every day.

Early this week, The Manila Times received a new coffee product that addresses stomach sensitivities. Made by PT Mayora and distributed by TriDharma Marketing Corp., the product is called Kopiko L.A. (Low Acid) and claims to be the first low-acid coffee mix in the Philippines.

The product is made from selected grade one coffee beans that undergo a controlled roasting process to reduce its acidity and make it smooth and stomach.

“We are very excited to launch L.A. Coffee, the latest innovation from Kopiko. Its robust coffee aroma, light blend, creamy taste and low acid level make it a healthier choice,” said Michael Tandas, the coffee’s brand manager.
