ILOILO CITY: A medical expert on Wednesday urged the government to invest in prevention than buying expensive medical equipment to control diabetes. Dr. Francis Pasaporte of Pototan, Iloilo said there is an urgent need to prevent and control diabetes before the disease control the nation. He said schools can help in disseminating information to the students about eating the right food and conducting a healthy lifestyle. He said only healthy vegetable dishes must be sold at school canteens intead of junk foods. Diabetes is a top killer disease with alarming complications that is common with other diseases especially cardiovascular, kidney failure and blindness that leads to increased disability, reduced life expectancy and enormous health costs worldwide.
