SENATOR Grace Poe has conceded to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Poe was the first to admit defeat as she and the other presidential candidates trailed Duterte who continued to dominate the partial and unofficial tally of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
In a news conference at the campaign headquarters of Partido Galing at Puso in Quezon City, Poe congratulated Duterte, saying she is giving way to the mayor.
The latest partial vote tally from the transparency survey showed Poe getting 7,485,077 votes against Duterte’s 13,219,660 as of 11 p.m.
“Ako si Grace Poe at naging kandidato sa pagka pangulo ngayong 2016, ay nagbibigay daan kay Mayor Rodrigo Duterte na siyang maliwanag na nangunguna sa botohan at siyang napili ng mas nakakaraming Pilipino,” Poe said.
Liberal Party standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd will also make an important announcement at 10 a.m. today, his camp said.
LP-led administration coalition spokesman Ibarra Gutierrez issued the statement close to midnight as Roxas trailed Duterte by six million votes.
“Former Secretary Roxas will come here to make an official statement. He will be here at 10 am (on Tuesday) to give his message personally,” Gutierrez told reporters at the LP headquarters in Balay, Quezon City.
Gutierrez, however, refused to say what Roxas’ message will be.
“I would not want to preempt what he is about to say. We will still be monitoring the results as they come in. He will be here to talk to the media, to his supporters, to the public,” he said.
“We still have 25 percent [of votes to be counted]so until its over, it’s not yet over. What I can say is that he is upbeat, relaxed, at peace with himself because he is a champion of an idea. That calmness has been with him throughout the campaign,” Gutierrez added.
