Grand Mufti visits Sulu province

ZAMBOANGA CITY: Govenor Totoh Tan recently meet with Muslim religious leaders led by Grand Mufti His Eminence Abdulbaqi Abubakar in Sulu province, southern Philippines to discuss issues affecting peace and development in the region. Tan, also the chairman of Sulu Area Coordinating Council and a peace advocate, said nobody should be sidelined because of one’s religious beliefs, stressing that respect for one another and a good working relationship must be maintained to attain peace in Mindanao—which has seen rebellion from both Muslim and communist groups. Several leaders of other faith-based organizations also met Tan to discuss common grounds in working for a better life for those in Sulu Archipelago and neighboring communities. Also meeting with Tan are the representatives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, through its Joint Task Group-Sulu and the Sulu Ulama Council for Peace and Development.
