As ABS-CBN’s top-rating TV drama Hawak Kamay draws to a close this week, lead actor Piolo Pascual finds himself at a bittersweet crossroads.
At a thanksgiving gathering for the show he related, “Masarap yung nabuong family namin sa set, and I’ve really gotten close to the kids together with my [leading lady]Iza Calzado, who also gave the show her all. Ang daming struggle nung family namin sa story, and all that has transcended into a friendship that I will certainly miss.
“On the other hand, sa dami din ng struggle sa storya, naging mahirap din ang pinagdaanan naming lahat sa set, so I’m also looking forward to some rest. But it feels so good to know that lahat ng utak na puwedeng tumulong na mapaganda ang Haway Kamay ay naghawak kamay talaga hanggang kaduluduluhan ng show.”
Hawak Kamay has made waves since airing in July. The family oriented program also stars Nikki Gil and talented child actors Zaijan Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat, and Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp Season 2 contender Yesha Camille.
The show’s theme that a family need not be comprised of blood relations to be one was positively embraced by audiences, and also gained positive reviews and ratings.
No doubt, a huge part of the Hawak Kamay’s success is due to Piolo’s well-developed acting skills, for which he actually credits his young co-actors.
“In the beginning talagang naging malaking challenge ang makatrabaho yung mga bata sa cast,” he confessed. “Wala kasi silang history or bubog sa buhay na napagdaana na, so they hardly have any experience to pull their emotions from.
“So what I had to learn is to make every scene organic, which really is your requirement as an actor. I had to draw from the raw emotions that came out of these kids. Mahirap siya because kung anong sabihin mo sa bata yun ang gagawin nila but I had to reciprocate that so everything just came together for all of us.”
With Iza beside him, she responded, “I was very fortunate to be placed among such brilliant actors in this show, and of course Piolo tops that list. May makakatrabaho ka na hindi ka papapsukin sa puso at kaluluwa nila, and ang mga bata, sobrang pure nila and they allow us to do that. I’ve learned so much from this experience, the most important of all is to always recognize the energy between two actors because that’s very powerful—and that’s what truly makes a scene.”
Piolo and the rest of the cast invite Hawak Kamay’s fans “to hold on until the very end” as the story reaches the much-anticipated finale.
“It’s going to be a very exciting week, but before the show ends, we all sincerely the viewers’ support throughout the journey of our family,” Piolo ended.
Hawak Kamay airs its last five days beginning tomorrow after TV Patrol.
