Great dining at Taal Vista Hotel

One fine Sunday, we drove to Tagaytay City upon invitation from the SM hotels and conventions group president Elizabeth Sy, owner of the Taal Vista Hotel. Ideally-situated to overlook the Taal Lake and Volcano, the hotel celebrates its 75th anniversary throughout the year until the culminating Grand Ball on October 11.

Opened on October 7, 1939, Taal Vista was the first hotel in Tagaytay that become a landmark because of its Tudor-style architecture and panoramic view of the lake. The opening of the hotel was in response to the late President Manuel Quezon’s aim to develop Tagaytay as a tourist destination because of the cool climate, beautiful scenery and proximity to Metro Manila.

At the press banquet, we were shown an AV presentation of the hotel’s history and heritage—how it evolved to be the epitome of Philippine hospitality.

A long table was beautifully set up under a huge tent overlooking the lake. Food was prepared by five celebrity guest chefs together with the hotel’s executive Chef Edwin Santos. The meal was a preview of what diners and guests can expect at the Cafe Veranda’s Grand Buffet every weekend for lunch and dinner starting July 26 up to October 12.


We enjoyed every course including Lapu-Lapu Rillette Kapampangan presented by chef and restaurateur Sau del Rosario; crunchy cheese triangle rice paper filled with fresh water wild fern, prawn water buffalo cheese and ensaladang Tagalog by former Malacañang Executive Chef Babes Austria; sinanglay en papillote presented by chef and restaurateur Fernando Aracama; pork napoleon presented by TV personality Chef Bruce Lim; and the dessert of suman rice with fresh ripe Mangoes and latik sauce was by celebrity couple chefs Jackie and Rolando Laudico.

Also present to welcome guests were the hotel’s General Manager Walid Wafik; vice president of marketing Neil Rumbaoa; Treena Tecson, assistant vice president, public relations; Celine Arenillo, area marketing communications manager; and the rest of the hotel management staff.

It was such an enjoyable dining experience that we are definitely looking forward to in the coming months. See you there!
